The Ozone hole is gone again!

Year after year, the ozone hole above the Antarctic is appearing. Huge emissions of the ODS (ozone destroying substances), mainly the CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons), in the 20th century caused a significant ozone depletion.

The previous two Ozone holes (in 2016 and 2017) were really small and caused the optimism in the recovering of the Ozone hole. But this year was one of the largest Ozone hole in the last decade and lasted until now! However, an interesting trend is here visible, the Ozone hole has formed quite late.

It can mean less probability of the Ozone hole creation due to weaker polar vortex. But, it is up to scientists to find out the answer after a few years with more data.

More than the picture is here.
